Here I am moved to Big Bear City, CA from Irvine, CA.
found a new yarn store: Susan's Needle Arts Shop, Stater Brothers Center, Big Bear Blvd, BBC, CA
she has so many things, if you can't find what you want, and Susan doesn't carry it she will find it for you
inexpensively. Wonderful Customer Service. Excellent Teacher.
However, there is no full time weaver's guild up here, I miss the one I belonged to for many years.
No, I don't weave, however, I don't turn my nose up at some of the finest spun yarn either. Oh these ladies spun beautiful, colorful, festive yarn. I would go to the Art Fair to score a small amount. I hoarded it, that is I hide from my offspring so they wouldn't steal it. I, in a moment of weakness and insanity taught them how to knit, I encouraged them to join the Weaving Guild to keep them out of trouble. Long story short
good yarn, + insatiable curiosity, + frugal purse, + encouraging parent = creative outcome, sometimes good, sometimes not so much.
Teachers appreciate hand knit gift bags and wash clothes, the common public will not buy them unless it is made in a 3rd world country and comes from a major corporate store. (in OC, the ORANGE CURTAIN)
People will ooh and aah at a hand knitted baby kit (sweater, blanket, booties, bonnet) at a baby shower,BUT will not take the time to learn, or appreciate the skill in making it. Still it is perfectly OK to go to a major coporate store and buy it. I got confused by this behavior a lot.
I don't have a camera, so can't post pictures yet.
I'm a Civil War Re-enactor (if I had a penny for all the pictures people took of me, I wouldn't be living frugally.) I bought some reprinted Victorian knitting patterns and I was hooked.
Love Victorian Patterns, because it's a complex puzzle to solve. (much like Royal Scottish Dancing, you want something to keep your brain busy, and your wits sharp, while looking elegantly sophisticated, I can recommend nothing more challenging.)
Yes, I run on in long sentences. Yes, I am aware I should edit more and write less. I love commas.
I am inspired by Franklin Habit, The Yarn Harlot, Mad Man Knitting, and hoards of other knitter blogs.
they push the boundaries of knitting. they showed me how to dream beyond the Orange Curtain expectancy.
